You'll see that removing MMA takes a lot longer than removing EMA. These monomers are mixed together with initiators, dispersing agents, causes, and water to make a polymer. Typically two types (or much more based on the manufacturer) of monomers are normally applied to make polymers one of which is MMA. MMA Polymers Powders In the producing process, all polymers powders begin as monomers. MMA on the otherhand becomes slimy and is almost impossible to remove because of the harmful chemicals within it. There are a number of substitutions for MMA which include ethyl methacrylate (EMA) and organic nail manicures. When EMA is soaked in acetone, it becomes flaky and easy to remove. Clearly, both of these sets of hands have been soaked in acetone (acrylic powder remover liquid). You might be wondering how do you know the difference? Take a look at the picture above. Now, EMA on the other hand is what is legal to use and something you should make sure is the base chemical and the only chemical in the monomer that you're using. MMA is also know to cause infections of the nail and fingers since they cause the nail to break off in a very rapid pace. because of its ability to cause permanent nail damage to the nail bed and cuticle. Now, this harmful liquid (MMA) is banned in most states in the U.S. It was cheap and ultimately got the job done when it came to applying acrylic powder to nails. In the early days of the nail industry becoming the booming industry it is today, MMA was commonly used.
Our Acrylic powders can be used with others' monomers, but we recommend ours for best adhesion since our monomer and acrylic powders are designed to work together. More importantly, to keep a consistent clientele, you must ensure that you as the nail technician, aren't causing any damage to your client's nails. Please note our products (acrylic included) are EMA based meaning you will not get the best results when using other monomers that are MMA based, with our acrylic. Not knowing the difference can cause harm to you and to your clients. Sis! It's super serious that you know the difference between these two very different chemicals.
